Earlier this month, Congress narrowly passed a significant piece of legislation that represents a major win for President Trump’s domestic policy agenda. Despite extensive media coverage in recent weeks, many Americans (including some lawmakers) aren’t completely clear on the extent of the legislation’s contents. Still, it has quickly become one of the most divisive measures to move through Congress in recent memory. Trendency’s next Political Trendwatch will dive into American perspectives on this next week, but for now, our latest COTW focuses on the big picture.
Here are the key takeaways from this week’s chart:
- ❌Opponents outweigh supporters 2 to 1: Nearly half of Americans (48%) strongly disapprove of the big beautiful bill (BBB). In comparison, just 1 out of 5 strongly approve (20%).
- ❓Some Americans are still unsure: With about 68% of Americans having a strong opinion either way, that leaves about one-third who have mixed feelings or are unsure (33%). Additionally, around 8% express strong uncertainty about their opinion of the bill, and 1 out of 5 (20%) express some level of uncertainty.
- 🚀A demographic preview shows major age and gender gaps: Though not included in this week’s graph, initial data shows that men and older voters (especially those between the ages of 56-74) are more likely to approve of the BBB.
